Argh! My wife came running upstairs and told me she smelt something burning downstairs in our laundry room. Our 2001 Maytag Neptune washing machine had an Lr code on the screen flashing. We unplugged it, let it sit for a few minutes, and started the machine again. This time it added water but never went through it’s normal cycles. I could hear some clicking noises, but the machine never turned or went through a spin cycle as usual. I’m starting to do some research online and have found some others with similar issues. If you have had this issue or have dealt with Maytag, please let me know.

Check out http://www.neptunewaxmotor.com. The motor / motor control board is a common failure on the Neptunes and was involved in the Maytag class action lawsuit a couple of years ago. The motor control board is located on the right side near the floor. See the above mentioned site for teardown photos. You can’t replace the motor control board because Maytag redesigned the motor so you have to replace the motor and motor control board. It takes about an hour to do the replacement. If you decide to spend the $194 for the Maytag 12002039 motor conversion kit you need to replace your door latch wax motor (about $20) before it takes out your upper machine control board. If you have a 2000 Stacker, MAH3000, MAH4000 or the MAH5500A series Neptune. The Q6 (triac) and R11 (3.9K ohn 1/4 watt) resistor fail due to t he wax motor drawing excessive current as it ages.. This 12002535 wax motor was also involved in the class action suit. In addition, the site even offers a free Monthly Neptune Newsletter!
Thank you Jeff for the info on the wax motor.
I own several properties with manyappliances. All our Maytag products are crap. They are either completely out of order or not functioning properly. No more Maytag for me.
