I grew up in a relatively small town, and hated every moment of it.

Then I moved to the city and got a nice house in the suburbs, and I find myself missing some of the small-town elements that I had once despised. Then again, I may be romanticizing the small town now just as I had romanticized the city when I was living the rural life.

I think there are many compromises for people who want it all- at least around here, there are a number of "bedroom communities" that are true small towns, but just a short drive to the city. These are the places that are starting to look like great options to me.
