Are You A Shopping Addict? Take This Quiz

by Scott on January 9, 2009

Sounds silly, but MSN Money has a quiz to help you determine if you are a shopping addict or have a shopping problem. The quiz caught my eye and I have to admit that some of the questions are a bit silly, and others I can’t answer as they don’t have a choice for me.

Take for instance this question:

When planning your annual vacation, you:
a. Wait until the last minute and inevitably feel that you’ve spent too much and that it wasn’t really
worth it.
b. Always mean to take a vacation, but when the time comes, you usually decide you can’t
spare the money.
c. Use money set aside in your budget for leisure.
d. Go “all out,” reasoning that your job is stressful and you need the relaxation,no
matter what the cost.

My answer was none of the above, as we don’t take a family vacation every year.

I think some of the questions make you think hard about what type of spender you are.

When you make a large purchase, you typically feel:
a. Elated, then let down.
b. Satisfied. You did your research and planned for it.
c. Depressed. You really don’t deserve anything that costs so much.
d. Regretful. You probably didn’t make the right decision.

I think I have experienced all of the above and would need an E. I purchased a car once and felt every single one of these in the span of about a month. Typically I would say that I enjoy researching and planning for items. In fact, sometimes I think I research a little more than needed on some items and should just go with my gut.

If you have a minute, the quiz only has 20 questions and you can find out if you are a shopping addict. Seriously, I think it can be a good tool to have a conversation with your spouse or friends. If you just noticed a co-worker receive a fedex box from QVC or Amazon, you might want to forward this quiz.
