I don't have latte factor...at least I don't think I do. We have two kids in a great daycare and that bill alone is as much as our mortgage! We don't have much wiggle room these days. :-)

My latte factor was bagels. I love bagels. With cream cheese. One costs about $2.50 and has A LOT of calories. So I'm cutting back to an occasional treat -- once or twice a month, instead of three or four times a week.

"you can’t put get too cheap when it comes to your health right?" - Asithi

Spot on... As a college student, Ramen Noodles definitely come to mind, although I my frugality would have to become even more extreme for me to put that over-processed crap into my body. At less than $.10 a pack though, it's easy to see why they are so popular.

Water is a frugal, healthy way to save some money. Cut back on soda and sugary juices and give your body what it really craves. It's also an easy way to save money every time you do eat out.

One of the things I'm thinking of doing this year is opening a health savings account. I'll do a little more research before taking the plunge, I think.

Make lists, never grocery shop (or shop in general) when hungry, don't assume a store's reputation for deals means a deal on every item, and don't assume buying in bulk means cheaper units.

We try to plan out meals a bit in advance around the Sunday paper deals & coupons. We rarely buy prepared or overly processed foods (however there are exceptions, my wife likes to have a pile of frozen microwave meals on hand in case she has nothing ready for lunch at work, frozen pizza is a good expedient and since we have many friends who work at a national pizza manufacturer we can get rejects on the cheap).

We do a lot of our own cooking & baking and do so in bulk.

I noticed too when tracking expenses our grocery spending fluctuates fairly wildly. We go and drop some good coin at the grocery store one week and then we are set for the next two - three weeks and are a fair amount under our weekly budget. I need to do a better job of expense tracking this year, though.

LASIK is wonderful if you qualify and it works for you. I had mine a year ago and I have perfect vision so it was worth it for me.

The whole process was a bit crazy (I posted on it on my site) and I don't think I could do it a second time...but I am happy I did it now.

One thing I did recently was go to a bicycle maintenance course. Luckily our city council runs a beginners and an intermediate course for free. Things I learned:

* cleaning your bike
* adjusting the brakes
* adjusting the gears
* fixing a broken chain
* replacing the brake pads

After all that, your bike not only looks new but feels new too!

I always make my own yoghurt. No, it's not even hard either (it's kind of a half way house). It's those yoghurts that you mix with water and let it develop over 12 hours inside a specialised container. And voila, you get a nice 1l worth of yoghurt. It's just so easy and a fair bit cheaper than the normal 1l yoghurts (and way cheaper than the 6 packs).
